Overcoming Long Application Processes

We all wish applying for jobs could be done with a push of a button, but that is unfortunately not the case. Spending time applying for jobs is a very time-consuming and frustrating process. It takes a long time, from the resume creation process, to filling out applications, to waiting to hear back. There is no magic fix, but we can take steps to speed up the application process and increase our chances of being hired!

Smart Use of Templates

Advanced resume writers will create specific resumes for different types of positions. For example, a marketing and finance resume should list different qualifications and skills. Sure, creating multiple resumes takes extra time, but it will also strengthen each of your applications and increase your chances of being hired! Streamline Resume Writing

With that being said, you do not have to create a unique resume for every single application. Instead, have a few different templates to choose from. Some people get too caught up in creating a unique resume for every application, which can balloon the time it takes for every application. If you want to modify a template a bit for a position, then that is fine, but you do not have to create a new resume for every single position.

Organization is Key

Companies post the same job opening on multiple websites, which is fair game. But be careful; companies can be sneaky and list the same position multiple times on the same website. Be attentive when applying, and do not apply for the same position multiple times. LinkedIn can keep track of all the positions you have applied for, but other websites cannot keep track. Keep a watchful eye as we do not want to waste time applying for the same position multiple times.

Follow-Up with Employers

You may have sent the greatest resume, but an employer might still forget about your application. This can be frustrating since we put a lot of time into writing our resumes. To circumvent this scenario, sending a follow-up email to an employer can help remind them about your application! Doing this also shows you are more dedicated than other applicants and can increase your chances of being hired.

Stay Motivated

When filling out every application, going in with a positive mindset is crucial. If you go into every application thinking you will not land the position, that will tank your motivation to continue the job search, thus taking even longer to find a job. We know it is hard to stay motivated when no good news is coming in, but it is always important to stay positive and not give up!
