Want a Better Work-Life Balance?

Updated: Jul 12

Many struggle to find the perfect balance between achieving all their career goals and fulfilling their out-of-work goals. Even if you absolutely love your job, sometimes the work can be too much to handle. It often feels like we are not given enough time in the day, which is why learning to gain a better work-life balance is essential for both your career and personal life.

Feeling overwhelmed? Here are some tricks for achieving a better work-life balance and feeling less stressed:

Effective Time Management

Chronic procrastinators, this may be hard for you, but setting a schedule and following it can help with your work-life balance. When you are waiting until the last second to finish your work, you will never feel truly feel free of work since it will always be in the back of your mind. Knowing when exactly worktime is can help you plan out your day, allocate your time more effectively, and make it feel like there is less work than there really is. Set Boundaries

This is much harder to do when working remotely when your home is also your workplace. Having your workplace be in a different location than your home separates your work life and out-of-work life. It can be easy to feel that you should always be working when your workplace is right where you sleep. If you work from home, try to have a designated “workspace” separated from everything else. Doing this can create a separation between work and leisure time and put less pressure on you to work all the time!

Flexible Work Options

A rigid work schedule can be stifling for many since it gives them less flexibility to plan their day. Having the option for different work hours or locations can give you the freedom you have been missing! Unfortunately, this option may not be available to everyone, but remote work and flexible work hours are becoming more commonplace nowadays

Supportive Work Environments

Seek out support while at work to discuss your work-life balance issues. Your co-workers or bosses have also likely experienced work-life balance problems. They can give you even more advice and may even change your current work schedule to accommodate your problems. You may feel vulnerable asking about this issue, but always remember that it is okay to ask for help!

Stress Management

Everyone handles stress differently, but we all do face stress. It is crucial not to let stress overpower us. Constantly feeling stressed at your job will make your work seem much longer and harder than it really is. Even just taking a step back and taking a quick breather is a good way to eliminate stress. If you have not before, try different stress-relieving exercises; they are more effective than you may think!

Keep on Trying

Struggling with your work-life balance is okay; many people struggle with it too! It may take a bit of time to figure out, but achieving a healthy work-life balance will make you a happier person both at work and outside of work.
